Baseball Recap: Chapin Comes Up Short

After flying high against Jefferson last Tuesday, Chapin came back down to earth. Chapin lost 12-6 to the Canutillo Eagles on Friday. The Huskies were not able to make up for their defeat to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Ozzie Marquez and Nathan Sanchez stepped up to the plate in a big way. Marquez went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one double, while Sanchez scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Julian Flores, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Chapin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.

Chapin's loss dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Canutillo, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5-2 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Chapin is set to challenge their familiar foe Andress at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Canutillo will face off against rival El Paso at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
