Basketball Recap: Freeport Takes a Loss

Freeport had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 6-14 to make it six. They lost 84-59 to the Walton Braves. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 70-57 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2025.

When it comes to explaining why Freeport lost, don't look at Rj Humes. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. The Bulldogs are 2-1 when Humes posts ten or more boards, but 4-13 otherwise. Hampton MacHado also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

As for Walton, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-2. The final result isn't all that surprising considering their considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 120th, while Freeport is ranked 575th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Walton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaden Fuentes, who shot 60% from the field on his way to 14 points and five rebounds. Fuentes is on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 60% in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Whitton West, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 14 points.

Freeport has already played their next game, an 83-51 defeat against Baker on the 20th. As for Walton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 56-44 loss against Rocky Bayou Christian on the 22nd.
