Football Game Preview: Milby Buffs vs. Galena Park Yellowjackets

The Milby Buffs will face off against the Galena Park Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Saturday, Milby strolled past Sharpstown with points to spare, taking the game 41-27. The Buffs haven't had any issues with the Apollos recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Milby's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gabriel Gutierrez, who threw for 271 yards and four TDs. The Buffs' leading receiver Artavion Davis was Gutierrez's top target yet again, picking up 132 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Meanwhile, Galena Park fought the good fight in their overtime game against Sterling last Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 34-31. The defeat leaves the Yellowjackets still looking for their first win of the season.

Milby will have to contain Cary Clay as he made an impact in Galena Park's last game. He rushed for 188 yards and one touchdown while picking up 8.5 yards per carry, and also picked up 39 receiving yards and one TD. Clay's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 188 rushing yards. Another player making a difference was Kendall Combs, who rushed for 79 yards on only ten carries.

The win got Milby back to even at 2-2. As for Galena Park, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Milby couldn't quite get it done against Galena Park when the teams last played back in September of 2024 as they fell 46-38. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Clay, who rushed for 196 yards and three scores while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. Now that the Buffs know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
