Softball Recap: Hueytown Takes a Loss

Hueytown lost against Gardendale back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Hueytown Golden Gophers fell 9-5 to the Gardendale Rockets. The Golden Gophers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Madison Smith and Jenna Melton did some serious damage despite the final result: Smith went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Melton went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Those three RBI gave Smith a new career-high.

Hueytown's defeat dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Gardendale, they pushed their record up to 13-10 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hueytown will take on Hillcrest at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Gardendale, they will challenge Clay-Chalkville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Clay-Chalkville's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four matches.
