Football Recap: San Juan Spartans vs. Delta Saints
San Juan couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They were dealt a 66-18 loss at the hands of the Delta Saints on Friday. The Spartans just can't catch a break and have now endured six defeats in a row dating back to last season.
When it comes to explaining why San Juan lost, don't look at Aiden Broadnax. Despite the final result, he rushed for 208 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries. Broadnax really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run.
Even though they lost, San Juan was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 212 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Delta only rushed for 28.
Delta can attribute much of their success to Chase Parkinson, who threw for 311 yards and six touchdowns on only 18 passes. Cole Hutson was Parkinson's top target, picking up 62 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
San Juan will look to defend their home field on Friday against Mira Loma at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully San Juan focused on turnovers this week as team gave up five on Friday. As for Delta, they will head out on the road to take on Rio Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
