Baseball Recap: Salem Hills Takes a Loss

Salem Hills had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 8-14 to make it four. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Skyhawks of the 6-5 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Salem Hills saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Guss Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.

As for Maple Mountain, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 21-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games.

On Maple Mountain's side, Chase Johnston was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Johnston has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Maple Mountain beat Salem Hills by a score of 11-1 on Friday.
