Football Recap: Canutillo Takes a Loss

After flying high against Burges last Thursday, Canutillo came back down to earth. The Eagles took a 21-16 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Del Valle Conquistadores on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Conquistadores: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the loss, Canutillo still got an impressive performance from Jarid Gamiz, who rushed for 140 yards and one TD. Gamiz showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 55 yards.

Del Valle had a senior duo take command as Dante Eytcheson rushed for 77 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only seven carries and Jake Fette rushed for 64 yards and one score on only nine carries.

Canutillo's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Del Valle, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Looking ahead, Canutillo will look to defend their home field on Friday against El Paso at 7:00 p.m. As for Del Valle, they will head out to square off against Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Conquistadores will be up against the Silver Foxes' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27.5 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
