Softball Recap: Campo Verde Wins Going Away Against Higley

Campo Verde not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 1st. They put the hurt on the Higley Knights with a sharp 11-3 victory. The win continues a trend for the Coyotes in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won five in a row.

Brooklyn Giefski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Anna Zehring and Rylan Renowden did most of the damage at the plate: Zehring went 3-for-5 with six RBI, one triple, and one run, while Renowden scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-5. That's the most stolen bases Renowden has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Amaya Hernandez, who scored two runs while going 4-for-5.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Campo Verde kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Campo Verde's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-9. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.7 runs. As for Higley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Campo Verde wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 10-2 loss against Horizon on the 20th. As for Higley, they have also already played their next game, a 9-9 tie against Flagstaff on the 20th.
