Baseball Game Preview: Pontotoc Warriors vs. Lafayette Commodores

For the second straight game, Pontotoc will face off against Lafayette. Pontotoc will venture away from home to square off against Lafayette at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pontotoc is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Pontotoc didn't have quite enough to beat Lafayette and fell 2-1. The Warriors have struggled against the Commodores recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Corbyn Clayton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Pontotoc saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hadley Corley, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

The win (which was Lafayette's fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Pontotoc, their loss dropped their record down to 12-5.

Lafayette's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pontotoc has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435.
