Softball Recap: Palmyra Takes a Loss

Palmyra had taken Bishop McDevitt down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Thursday. Palmyra fell 8-4 to Bishop McDevitt. The Cougars have struggled against the Crusaders recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Emalyn Funck put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits. Funck was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double. That double marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, Riley Westenberger made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in triples (two). Another player making a difference was Mia Morrison, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Palmyra's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Bishop McDevitt, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Palmyra has already played their next contest, a 12-1 loss against Carlisle on the 31st. As for Bishop McDevitt, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 10-0 defeat against Lower Dauphin on the 31st.
