Basketball Game Preview: Upland Highlanders/Scots vs. Rancho Cucamonga Cougars

Upland is 2-8 against Rancho Cucamonga since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Upland Highlanders/Scots will venture away from home to challenge the Rancho Cucamonga Cougars at 6:30 p.m.

Upland is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Wednesday. They fell 54-42 to Chino Hills. While losing is never fun, the Highlanders/Scots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 532nd, while the Huskies are ranked 76th).

Meanwhile, Rancho Cucamonga came tearing into Wednesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past the Spartans with points to spare, taking the game 65-47.

Rancho Cucamonga's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-7. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.3 points per game. As for Upland, their loss dropped their record down to 9-13.

Upland came up short against Rancho Cucamonga in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 63-53. Can Upland avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
