Softball Recap: Hopewell Blue Devils vs. Prince George Royals
Hopewell had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-9 to make it 11. They lost 21-2 to the Prince George Royals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Royals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-0 back in March.
As for Prince George, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3. Considering they have won six games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
For Prince George's part, Payton Finney made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Finney has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, earning two RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kasey Sulc was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Audrey Bourque was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Hopewell is set to face off against their familiar foe Dinwiddie at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Prince George will challenge rival Thomas Dale at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
