Basketball Recap: Newberry Extends Road Winning Streak to Four

Newberry had won three straight road games and Brandy Whitfield did her part to make it four on Tuesday. The Newberry Panthers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Buchholz Bobcats, sneaking past 51-48 thanks in part to Whitfield, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 21 points and four steals. Her evening made it 14 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Beaulieu, who posted seven points in addition to six assists and five boards. What's more, she also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in December of 2023.

Despite the loss, Buchholz saw an underclassman step up: freshman Alessia Chaves-Torres went 7 of 12 on her way to 17 points. Another player making a difference was Taylor Booth, who had ten points.

Newberry has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.6 points per game. As for Buchholz, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Newberry will square off against Hawthorne at 6:00 p.m. on January 15th. Newberry is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.9 points per game this season. As for Buchholz, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 46-37 defeat against Rickards on the 10th.
