Recap: Central Grizzlies vs. Washington Union Panthers

The Central Grizzlies can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They took down Washington Union 73-55. Given Central's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 213th, while Washington Union is ranked 879th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Central to victory were Myron Pondexter-Johnson and Ej Jefferson. Pondexter-Johnson scored 23 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Jefferson scored 23 points along with six steals. That's the first time this season that Jefferson scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenneth White jr, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.

When it comes to explaining why Washington Union lost, one person who can't be blamed is Reginald "Kado" Felder. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Tayven Holland, who scored 17 points.

Even though they lost, Washington Union smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central only pulled down an offensive rebound.

Central's victory bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Washington Union, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Central will take on Clovis North at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clovis North knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 18 matchups -- so hopefully Central likes a good challenge. As for Washington Union, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Reedley at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
