Basketball Recap: Sarah Maciariello's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cardinal Gibbons over Leesville Road

Cardinal Gibbons lost against Leesville Road back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The game between the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders and the Leesville Road Pride didn't end well, with the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders falling 64-45. While losing is never fun, the Crusaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 309th, while the Pride are ranked 98th).

Several Crusaders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sarah Maciariello, who posted ten points and five rebounds. Maciariello continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaclyn Deis, who scored five points and four steals.

Leesville Road's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Finley Lewis led the charge by dropping a double-double on 24 points and 17 boards. Lewis is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 12 or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Molly Zuburg, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine assists.

This is the second loss in a row for Cardinal Gibbons and nudges their season record down to 7-13. As for Leesville Road, they pushed their record up to 14-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home.

Coming up, Cardinal Gibbons will host Sanderson at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Leesville Road, they will head out to square off against Enloe at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Leesville Road is facing Enloe at the right time seeing as Enloe is stuck on an 18-game losing streak.
