Baseball Game Preview: Sam Houston Hurricanes vs. Edison Golden Bears

Sam Houston hasn't had much luck against Edison recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Hurricanes will be playing at home against the Golden Bears at 7:00 p.m. Sam Houston has given up an average of 16.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Sam Houston is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 38th straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They lost 17-2 to Brackenridge.

Meanwhile, Edison came tearing into Thursday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Matadors.

Luis Garcia Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Garcia Smith wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Samaad Bunch, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Edison pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Sam Houston, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-12.
