Basketball Recap: Utopian Academy for the Arts Comes Up Short

Utopian Academy for the Arts came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They had to suffer through a 72-41 loss at the hands of the Elite Scholars Academy Royal Knights. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Utopian Academy for the Arts of the 74-44 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2024.

Utopian Academy for the Arts' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Quevion Johnson, who went 5-for-11 en route to 17 points, and Khalif Morgan, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 12 points. The contest was Johnson's fourth in a row with at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Jace Franklin, who posted five points.

Eric Batchelor had a dynamite game For Elite Scholars Academy., going 5-for-6 on his way to 21 points along with five boards and three steals. That's the most steals Batchelor has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Charles-Jones, who shot 75% from the field en route to 12 points and six assists.

Having lost for the first time this season, Utopian Academy for the Arts fell to 2-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Utopian Academy for the Arts will head out to square off against Drew Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Elite Scholars Academy, they will venture away from home to take on Johnson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
