Softball Recap: Merritt Island Mustangs vs. South Sumter Raiders

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Vanguard, Merritt Island was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They came out on top against the South Sumter Raiders by a score of 7-2. This was payback for the Mustangs, who suffered an 11-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Rindi Amos made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Alyssa Abbott was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zoey Allen, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Merritt Island hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Sumter struck out eight times.

The victory got Merritt Island back to even at 6-6. As for South Sumter, their loss dropped their record down to 10-6.

Coincidentally, Merritt Island and South Sumter will both be playing Lake Weir the next time they take the field. The Mustangs will head out to face the Hurricanes at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Raiders will play them later in the day, at 5:00 p.m.
