The Providence Day Chargers will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Hoggard Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Providence Day sitting on seven straight victories and Hoggard on nine.
Providence Day will head into Saturday's matchup hoping to keep the good times rolling: they proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 22) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. It was close, but they ultimately received the gift of a 52-49 win from a begrudging Chargers squad. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since January 13th.

Providence Day can attribute much of their success to Ginny Anne Dumont, who went 10 of 16 on her way to 24 points, and Jane Updyke, who posted 11 points in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals. Dumont has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Layla Clark, who put up eight points and three steals.
Providence Day smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Hoggard over D.H. Conley in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Hoggard blew past D.H. Conley 47-24. The 47-point effort marked Hoggard's lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Hoggard's win came from a few key players Providence Day will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Tristan Shivers, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 15 points in addition to seven steals and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Fitzgerald, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards.
Hoggard's win was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-0. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 29.6 points. As for Providence Day, their record now sits at 9-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Providence Day has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Hoggard struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.8 boards.
