Baseball Recap: Buckingham's Undefeated Season over After 14 Games

Buckingham had taken Lunenburg Central down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Monday. The Knights fell just short of the Chargers by a score of 3-2. The contest marked the Knights' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Avery Schaeffer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ty Wilkerson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Having lost for the first time this season, Buckingham fell to 13-1. As for Lunenburg Central, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-2.

Buckingham and Lunenburg Central should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Knights (ranked 47th) will meet Cumberland (ranked 360th) at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
