Preview: O'Connor Eagles vs. Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions

O'Connor is 8-1 against Mountain Ridge since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The O'Connor Eagles will be playing at home against the Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

O'Connor put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 49-6 victory over Valley Vista. With O'Connor ahead 35-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Nathan Bayus had a dynamite game for O'Connor, rushing for 131 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, while also picking up 77 receiving yards. Mason Steele was another key contributor, rushing for 76 yards and two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Mountain Ridge entered their tilt with Goldwater with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Mountain Ridge blew past Goldwater 42-12 on the road.

Trent Wilkins had an outrageously good game as he threw for 153 yards and five touchdowns on only 13 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Ryland Sands, who picked up 89 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

The team's defense also helped out by holding Goldwater to a paltry 225 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Mountain Ridge's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Tyler Slipek and his two sacks.

Their wins bumped O'Connor to 4-5 and Mountain Ridge to 3-6.

O'Connor strolled past Mountain Ridge in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 by a score of 38-21. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Mountain Ridge's Terrance Hall, who picked up 109 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown on only six carries. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for O'Connor to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
