Basketball Game Preview: Poly Parrots vs. Verdugo Hills Dons

Poly is 8-2 against Verdugo Hills since January of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Poly Parrots will host the Verdugo Hills Dons at 7:00 p.m. Poly knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Verdugo Hills likes a good challenge.

On Wednesday, Poly humbled Monroe with an 86-31 victory. Given the Parrots' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 412th, while the Vikings are ranked 1283rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

JD Wyatt continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 31 points. The contest was his 28th in a row with at least ten points. Quian Khawaja was another key player, earning 16 points.

Meanwhile, Verdugo Hills ended up a good deal behind Arleta on Wednesday and lost 78-64. The Dons were down 61-39 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Poly has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.7 points per game. As for Verdugo Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 11-10.

Poly skirted past Verdugo Hills 59-56 in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Verdugo Hills' Alexander Martinez, who went 8 of 15 on his way to 24 points and eight rebounds.
