Recap: Mid-Carolina Rebels vs. Newberry Bulldogs
The Mid-Carolina Rebels waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They strolled past Newberry with points to spare, taking the game 49-30. Given Mid-Carolina's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while Newberry is ranked 230th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mid-Carolina found their leader in underclassman BreA Boyd, who scored 24 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Boyd has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Josie Shepherd, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds.
Shelarria Robinson and Lexis Mayes certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Robinson scored ten points, while Mayes scored four points.
Mid-Carolina's win bumped their record up to 11-2. As for Newberry, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mid-Carolina will face off against Abbeville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Abbeville is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Newberry, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Saluda at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Saluda will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
