Football Recap: Richland County Extends Winning Streak to Five

Richland County won against Marshall last Friday with 57 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Tigers blew past the Newton Eagles 57-34. Fans of the Tigers have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Richland County was led to victory by Gavyn Cothern and Xavier Owusu-Gyan. Cothern rushed for 181 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.1 yards per carry, while Owusu-Gyan rushed for 192 yards and three TDs on only 15 carries. Those 192 rushing yards gave Owusu-Gyan a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Reed Klingler, who picked up 104 receiving yards and one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Richland County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 468 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

The win keeps Richland County at an undefeated 5-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 52.4 points this season. As for Newton, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Richland County wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 42-26 win against Mt. Carmel on the 3rd. As for Newton, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 34-21 defeat against Paris on the 3rd.
