Baseball Recap: Pickens Academy Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Pickens Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They put the hurt on the Holy Spirit Catholic Saints with a sharp 14-4 win on Tuesday. Considering the Pirates have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ace Gregory was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Pickens Academy is 4-2 when Gregory allowsthree or fewer hits, but 4-7 otherwise. Gregory was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-6 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kaden Craft and Hudson Pennington did most of the damage at the plate: Craft scored three runs while going 2-for-3, while Pennington scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave Craft a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Crowe, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Pickens Academy's victory bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Holy Spirit Catholic, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Pickens Academy will have a chance to go back-to-back against Holy Spirit Catholic: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
