Basketball Recap: Carroll County Takes a Loss

Carroll County lost against Gallatin County back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Carroll County Panthers were dealt an 84-51 loss at the hands of the Gallatin County Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 253rd, while the Wildcats are ranked 102nd).

Despite the loss, Carroll County still got an impressive performance from Cooper Gutman, who went 9-for-21 to rack up 27 points. That was a full 52.9% of Carroll County's points, marking the fourth time in a row Gutman has posted more than a third of the team's points. Trey Miller also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Carroll County has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.4 points over those games. As for Gallatin County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-7-1.

Carroll County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 73-34 victory against Columbus Christian on the 8th. Gallatin County has also already played their next game (against Augusta), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
