Softball Recap: St. Marys Continues Home Dominance on Wednesday

While St. Marys's victory against Punxsutawney wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The St. Marys Flying Dutch narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Punxsutawney Chucks 6-5. The victory continues a trend for the Flying Dutch in their matchups with the Chucks: they've now won eight in a row.

Avery Eckels spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Kelsie Fledderman was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Molly Hanslovan, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

St. Marys pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, St. Marys is taking a road trip to face off against Karns City at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Punxsutawney, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on DuBois Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
