The Avonworth Antelopes are taking a road trip to face off against the Mohawk Area Warriors at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
Avonworth's last matchup with Ellwood City could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Wednesday. The Antelopes came up short against the Wolverine, falling 11-2. The match marked the Antelopes' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Meanwhile, Mohawk Area came tearing into Friday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 16-5 margin over the Vikings. That's two games straight that the Warriors have won by exactly 11 runs.
Reagan Magno made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Kaitlyn Hare looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Ashlee Masters was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alivia Hare, who went 4-for-6 with two triples, three runs, and one RBI.
Mohawk Area hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hopewell struck out ten times.
Mohawk Area pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. As for Avonworth, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season.
Avonworth might still be hurting after the 16-6 loss they got from Mohawk Area in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Antelopes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
