Softball Recap: Key West Wins Going Away Against Sebastian River

The Key West Conchs made easy work of the Sebastian River Sharks on Friday and carried off a 10-4 victory. Considering the Conchs have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Brianna Brenner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Shylo Sanchez was incredible, going 2-for-3 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Vera Rodger, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Sanchez wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Key West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. Key West is a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Key West has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Sebastian River and nudges their season record down to 8-6.

Key West didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 14-3 loss against John Carroll Catholic on the 29th. As for Sebastian River, they will venture away from home to take on Lincoln Park Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sebastian River is facing Lincoln Park Academy at the right time seeing as Lincoln Park Academy is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
