Basketball Recap: George West's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

George West entered their tilt with Taft on Wednesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They enjoyed a cozy 61-44 victory over the Taft Greyhounds. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 50-41 back in December of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Taft saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Krista Amaya went 10 for 23 en route to 22 points. That was a full 50% of Taft's points, marking the tenth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Yaneli Rios was another key player, putting up seven points and seven rebounds.

George West's win bumped their record up to 13-16. As for Taft, their loss dropped their record down to 17-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. George West will challenge Odem at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. George West is facing Odem at the right time seeing as Odem is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Taft, they and Banquete will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
