Cigarroa hasn't had much luck against Palmview recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cigarroa Toros will square off against the Palmview Lobos at 6:00 p.m. Cigarroa has given up an average of 11 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Cigarroa is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They lost 16-1 to Mission.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Palmview). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Martin a 19-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Lobos haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Abigail Cantu was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. The dominant performance gave her a new career-low in hits. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Palmview got a massive performance out of Alynna Gonzalez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave Gonzalez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Yailyn Trevino, who scored four runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-3.
Palmview hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in four consecutive games.
Palmview pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Cigarroa, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cigarroa hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .414. However, it's not like Palmview struggles in that department as they've averaged .386. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cigarroa might still be hurting after the 12-5 defeat they got from Palmview in their previous meeting back in February. Can Cigarroa avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
