Baseball Recap: Niles West Takes a Loss

Niles West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 10-4 to the Palatine Pirates.

Scott Stewart was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Niles West: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 13-17 otherwise. Stewart was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Niles West got a good showing from Yacoub Rayan, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, Rayan didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April.

Stewart wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kevin Foley, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Niles West's loss dropped their record down to 16-18. As for Palatine, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 25-9.

Coming up, Niles West will host Niles North at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Palatine, they have already played their next match, a 5-4 win against Glenbrook South on the 26th.
