Preview: Stone Tomcats vs. Vancleave Bulldogs
The Stone Tomcats will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Vancleave Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Stone has four straight victories, Vancleave has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Stone can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent game on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 66-46 margin over East Central. Given Stone's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while East Central is ranked 285th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Stone relied on the efforts of Ray Dennis, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and two steals, and Jabori Moye, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Moye pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of JaKobey Johnson, who scored five points along with six rebounds and six blocks.
Meanwhile, Vancleave came up short against Gautier on Tuesday and fell 41-31.
Stone has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Vancleave, they dropped their record down to 1-17 with that defeat, which was their 13th straight on the road.
Stone didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Vancleave in their previous matchup on January 9th, but they still walked away with a 48-42 victory. Does Stone have another victory up their sleeve, or will Vancleave turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
