Preview: Mt. Carmel Golden Aces vs. Roxana Shells
The Mt. Carmel Golden Aces will head out on the road to face off against the Roxana Shells at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Mt. Carmel sitting on 11 straight victories and Roxana on 12.
Mt. Carmel extended their postseason success on Saturday against Tolono Unity. They walked away with a 56-46 win over the Rockets. Yes, you read that score correctly, and yes, they were playing football.
Mt. Carmel can attribute much of their success to Asher Kight, who gained 271 total yards and three touchdowns, and Blayne Sisson, who rushed for 230 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Sisson hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for five straight games.
Meanwhile, Roxana can now show off 11 landslide victories after their most recent contest on Saturday. Everything went their way against Olympia as Roxana made off with a 56-30 victory.
Roxana's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chris Walleck, who threw for 135 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Andruw Ellis was another key contributor, gaining 147 total yards and two touchdowns.
Mt. Carmel's victory bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Roxana, their win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0.
