Basketball Game Preview: Cambridge Trojans vs. Sutherland Sailors

The Cambridge Trojans will face off against the Sutherland Sailors at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cambridge has four straight victories, Sutherland has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

On Tuesday, Cambridge needed a bit of extra time to put away Medicine Valley. They skirted past the Raiders 63-60. The win almost wasn't to be: the Trojans were down 39-24 in the second quarter.

Cambridge's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maverick Webb, who went 7 for 15 on his way to 21 points. The dominant performance gave Webb a new career-high in points. Hodge Raburn was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 13 boards.

Meanwhile, Sutherland played a tough contest on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Perkins County 66-22. The Sailors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-8.

They got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Mason Mortimer and Jackson Saner, who each put up six points. Mortimer also led the team in rebounds with six. Ethan Holm took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Sutherland's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Cambridge, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.

Everything came up roses for Cambridge against Sutherland in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the squad secured a 61-17 victory. In that game, Cambridge amassed a halftime lead of 44-9, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
