Basketball Recap: Sun Valley Comes Up Short

Sun Valley was the 60-56 winner over Cuthbertson when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Sun Valley Spartans lost to the Cuthbertson Cavaliers at home by a 55-36 margin on Tuesday. The matchup marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Sun Valley lost, don't look at Thanasi Papazis. Despite the final result, he posted 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Papazis has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylin Powell, who earned seven points.

Even though they lost, Sun Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Sun Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Cuthbertson, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-4.

Cuthbertson has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 183 points over their last three games.
