Basketball Recap: Hazelwood Central Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

If Hazelwood Central was riding high fresh off their 57-26 takedown of Northwest last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hazelwood Central Hawks fell 48-41 to the Hazelwood West Wildcats on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while the Wildcats are ranked 40th).

Hazelwood West was led to victory by Jamiah Herring-Green and Zayniyah Jackson. Herring-Green went 8 of 16 on her way to 24 points along with six steals and five rebounds, while Jackson went 6 for 15 en route to 15 points in addition to seven steals and five assists. The game was Herring-Green's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Timia Blissett, who posted three points and seven boards.

Hazelwood Central's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-4. As for Hazelwood West, they pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Hazelwood Central has already played their next matchup (against Lutheran North), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Hazelwood West is taking a road trip to square off against Duchesne at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
