Football Recap: Elm Creek's Run of Five Straight Victories Now Over

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Elm Creek can now relate to. They came up short against the Deshler Dragons on Thursday, falling 50-28. The Buffaloes' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Despite the defeat, Elm Creek saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Keston Beavers rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries, and also picked up 30 receiving yards.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Quincy Orme and Braxton Peterson. Orme rushed for 179 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 8.5 yards per carry while Peterson rushed for 112 yards and three scores. Orme also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because Deshler is undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise.

Elm Creek's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Deshler, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-2.

Elm Creek does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Deshler, they are taking a road trip to challenge Central Valley at 7:00 p.m. on the 31st. The Dragons will need to watch out since the Cougars have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
