Marvin Ridge beats Weddington for their third straight win

Recap: Marvin Ridge Mavericks vs. Weddington Warriors

The Marvin Ridge Mavericks entered their tilt with the Weddington Warriors with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Marvin Ridge managed a 24-20 victory over Weddington on Friday. The win was all the more spectacular given Marvin Ridge's disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 66th, while Weddington is ranked fifth).

Evan Medders had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns. Medders was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. Marvin Ridge also got help from Mark Arthur who showed off his sure hands for 95 receiving yards.

Weddington's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Keenan Jackson, who picked up 172 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and Tyler Budge who threw for 210 yards and three touchdowns.

Marvin Ridge's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Weddington, their loss dropped their record down to 8-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marvin Ridge will take on Mallard Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mallard Creek is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. As for Weddington, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Providence at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Providence knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Weddington likes a good challenge.
