Basketball Recap: Juan Diego Catholic Takes a Loss

Juan Diego Catholic came up into this matchup off a tough 24-point loss last Saturday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Kearns Cougars by a score of 40-37 on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Soaring Eagle of the 44-30 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Kearns to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mina Kinikini, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lia Benson, who posted seven points and three steals.

Juan Diego Catholic has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Kearns, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-6.

Juan Diego Catholic will look to defend their home court on Thursday against North Sanpete at 7:00 p.m. As for Kearns, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Granger at 7:00 p.m. on January 10th. Granger will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Kearns surely won't give up without a fight.
