Basketball Game Preview: Menendez Falcons vs. Interlachen Rams

Menendez and Interlachen are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2021, but not for long. The Menendez Falcons will welcome the Interlachen Rams at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Menendez is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They walked away with a 77-66 win over West Port on Saturday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Falcons as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Interlachen, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They slipped by Trenton 69-68 on Friday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Rams' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 238th, while the Tigers are ranked 106th).

Interlachen's win came from a few key players Menendez will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kemontae Nixon, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 16 boards. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down 13 or more in the last four games he's played. Raszir Phelps was another key player, going 7 of 13 on his way to 15 points and three steals.

Interlachen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 34 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Interlachen is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Menendez, their victory bumped their record up to 2-6.

Menendez beat Interlachen 56-46 in their previous matchup back in January. Does Menendez have another victory up their sleeve, or will Interlachen turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
