Baseball Recap: Six Straight Home Wins for Highland

Highland had won six straight at home, but on Friday they bumped their record up to 20-5 to make it seven. They put the hurt on the Virginia Episcopal School Bishops with a sharp 16-4 victory. The win continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Bishops: they've now won five in a row.

Justin Summers was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Christian Dart also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Highland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

As for Virginia Episcopal School, they moved to 10-5 with that defeat, which also ended their six-game winning streak. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss they have suffered since April 2nd.

On Virginia Episcopal School's side, Nate Gobble and Lawrence Dempsey did some serious damage despite the final result: Gobble went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Dempsey went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. The Bishops are 8-1 when Dempsey posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise.

Highland and Virginia Episcopal School should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Hawks (ranked 11th) will meet Steward (ranked 113th) at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Virginia Episcopal School will square off against Fishburne Military at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (130 vs. 332).
