The Ticonderoga Sentinels will face off against the Stillwater Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Ticonderoga is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Northern Adirondack a 10-0 shutout. The Sentinels' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Myleigh Drinkwine made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Drinkwine was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Addy Moore and Isabelle Burroughs did most of the damage at the plate: Moore went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Burroughs went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Addison Munson was another key player, going 1-for-5 with one home run.
Ticonderoga lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Stillwater entered their tilt with Lisbon Central on Wednesday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Golden Knights.
Like Ticonderoga, Stillwater also got a great game from a two-way player: Eden Resch. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts Resch has posted since back in May. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katie Coogan, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Emery Powers, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Stillwater's win bumped their record up to 14-6. As for Ticonderoga, their victory bumped their record up to 16-0.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ticonderoga has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .556. However, it's not like Stillwater struggles in that department as they've averaged .470. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Ticonderoga's way against Stillwater in their previous meeting back in May of 2019, as Ticonderoga made off with a 16-9 win. Will the Sentinels repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
