Softball Recap: Fort Walton Beach Takes a Loss

Fort Walton Beach fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Niceville on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 5-4. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Rilyn Douglas spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits.

On the hitting side, Fort Walton Beach saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hannah Isham, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base.

Fort Walton Beach's loss dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Niceville, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Fort Walton Beach will venture away from home to challenge South Walton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Seahawks have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Niceville, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Muhlenberg County at 6:00 p.m.
