Baseball Game Preview: West Point Pointers vs. Middlesex Chargers

The West Point Pointers will challenge the Middlesex Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. West Point has given up an average of 13.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

West Point is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 28-18 margin over Charles City on Tuesday.

Gavin Stoffer was a standout: he got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those RBI were his first of the season. Jake Atkins was another key player, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

West Point always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .661. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Middlesex entered their tilt with Mathews on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Blue Devils a 2-0 shutout.

Not much got past Henry Fleet, who gave up just two hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Mathews off the board.

At the plate, Middlesex's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Bryson Bulgin, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

West Point's victory bumped their record up to 2-9. As for Middlesex, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
