Basketball Recap: St. John's/Tipton Catholic Starts Season with Victory Against Natoma

St. John's/Tipton Catholic gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They took their match with ease, bagging a 74-24 win over the Natoma Tigers. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Blujays had established a 45 point advantage.

Leading St. John's/Tipton Catholic to victory were Edward Horinek and Gabriel Roderick. Horinek went 8 for 19 on his way to 21 points and four steals, while Roderick went 7 of 10 on his way to 15 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Roderick a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of John Mick, who posted eight points and five rebounds.

Natoma dropped their record down to 0-2 with the defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

St. John's/Tipton Catholic will be taking part in a tournament against Smith Center at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Natoma, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 74-22 loss against Tescott on the 9th.
