Softball Game Preview: Millis Mohawks vs. Bellingham Blackhawks

Millis and Bellingham are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Mohawks will challenge the Blackhawks at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Millis will be strutting in after a win while Bellingham will be coming in after a loss.

Millis will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Thursday, then bounced right back against Rockland on Monday. The Mohawks' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 13-0 shutout. The Mohawks not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 9th (when they won 16-3).

Mia Vasta was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Vasta was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zoe Sparks, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Macy Ingraham, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Bellingham's offense. They fell 4-0 to Medway on Monday. The Blackhawks haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Millis now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Bellingham, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Millis might still be hurting after the 9-1 loss they got from Bellingham in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Mohawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
