Baseball Recap: Mount Dora Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

Mount Dora had won four straight at home, but on Wednesday they bumped up to 12-7 to make it five. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Umatilla Bulldogs. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 2-0 victory on Monday.

Rory Irwin looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Evan Nelan and Jose Hernandez did most of the damage at the plate: Nelan went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Hernandez earned one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

As for Umatilla, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-10. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 16-2 Nature Coast Tech (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 68% over those games).

On Umatilla's side, they saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Stephan Huckeba, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Another was Aidan Ross, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Mount Dora will host Tavares at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Umatilla, they will head out to square off against Nature Coast Tech at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 3.6, the Sharks 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
