Basketball Recap: Ceres Comes Up Short

After flying high against Pacheco last Wednesday, Ceres came back down to earth. The Ceres Bulldogs lost 78-55 to the Grace Davis Spartans on Friday. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Ceres still got an impressive performance from Manuel Ortega, who went 13 of 29 on his way to 32 points. Ortega's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Jaylen Pettigrew was another key player, putting up ten points.

Even though they lost, Ceres smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive matches.

Ceres has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Grace Davis, their record is now 11-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ceres has already played their next contest (against Beyer), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Grace Davis will head out to square off against Pacheco at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Grace Davis is facing Pacheco at the right time seeing as Pacheco is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
