Basketball Game Preview: Minerva Lions vs. Canton South Wildcats

Minerva is 2-8 against Canton South since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Minerva Lions challenge the Canton South Wildcats at 7:00 p.m.

Minerva is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. The contest between them and Alliance didn't end well, with Minerva falling 55-40. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 397th, while the Aviators are ranked 137th).

Meanwhile, Canton South took their matchup on Saturday with ease, bagging a 67-32 win over Fairless. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Canton South has also been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Minerva, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.

Minerva ended up a good deal behind Canton South in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, losing 67-50. Can Minerva avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
